
They called for inches of rain for the day – and rain it did. In fact, as I write this the day after, the KY sky is still giving our land much needed rain. I thought for sure if we had lightening, they would not Run for the Roses in the Kentucky Derby, but run they did. Minutes before the race, the rain stopped, the sun came out and the race was run. At the finish, there was a rainbow. Magical.
Super Derby for Pletcher, Borel
WinStar Farm’s homebred SUPER SAVER (Maria’s Mon) benefited from a classic Calvin Borel ride to give trainer Todd Pletcher his first Kentucky Derby (G1) win at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Saving ground along the rail all the way around, the bay colt ran the 1 1/4-mile classic over a sloppy, sealed track in 2:04 2/5. “It never gets old,” said an emotional Borel, who became the first jockey to win three 3 Derbies in four 4 years.
